Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
MDI can help your company integrate or upgrade a distributed control system to your site to help reduce risk and increase overall reliability.
Distributed control systems can help to increase the reliability of your site by distributing autonomous controllers for your production systems throughout the facility, rather than centralizing them in one location. A DCS is similar to a SCADA system, but differs in that a DCS localises control functions near the field level, and only centralizes monitoring systems.
MDI is skilled at both DCS and SCADA implementations. For information about our SCADA offerings, click here.
How does the process work?

Step 3
Implement a solution
Our engineers will design and implement your DCS, working with you along the way.
WE’RE EXPERTS AT DCS
Considering MDI was originally formed by a group of DCS engineers, we have extensive experience in working with them. We’ve implemented distributed control systems using a wide variety of manufacturers, including Emerson’s Delta V, Siemens PCS7, and Novatech’s D3. We continue to have our engineers expand their knowledge by working with other manufacturer’s DCS equipment offerings.
Reliability Increases
Integrating a DCS at your site can increase your reliability and fault tolerance. With the inherent distributed nature of a DCS, individual parts of a system can have faults or be replaced without affecting the system as a whole.
Due to this, distributed control systems are often selected by industries with mission-critical operations: power plants, water treatment facilities, among others. However, a DCS is applicable for any industrial operation. With our extensive experience, MDI can work with you to integrate a DCS into your site.
Commissioning
MDI has capable commissioning engineers that can install your newly designed system into an existing plant or new one.
Our engineers work closely with our commissioning team to ensure that installation of new hardware is streamlined. If integrating into an existing plant, we make sure that our systems are designed from the ground up to coexist and interoperate with your already existing equipment.
UL 508A Panel Shop
With our own on-site panel shop, we can design and construct electrical panels of any kind for your project. Additionally, we can construct build-to-print panels for OEMs.
All wiring, connections, and devices are labeled with computer generated labels to ensure that future maintenance is easy.
Before any panel leaves our shop, it is run through a rigorous quality check that involves multiple individuals who did not work on constructing the panel. Our quality control involves full functionality testing, cleanliness, and other tests.
